In October 1925, Rammer Jammer, a UA student humor magazine,
announced a contest for the best college fight song submitted by January
1926. The prize was $50. One of the losing songs, "Song of the Crimson
Tide," became popular and was published later in 1926. It was occasionally
played by the band as an adjunct to the winning song.
